About Lynedoch Lyceum Corporate Events Centre
Heritage
In 1866 John Charlton organized a circulating library and founded a debating society called the Lynedoch Lyceum. During his 57 year residency in Lynedoch, he was a member of parliament for 32 years, and ardent supporter of Free Trade with the United States. He was the architect of the Charlton Seduction Act, a forerunner of legislation that recognizes the rights of women in Canadian Law. In 1910, at the age of 81, he died of a stroke at his home in Lynedoch.Lyceum has a double meaning. It is a place of learning, as well as being the content for learning.
